Tourist guide

If you're more of a country mouse than a town mouse, then you'll feel right at home in the area of Charente. Here, you'll be in the heart of the countryside overlooking a loop in the river, the perfect spot for a swim. On site, make the most of the many varied activities and sports such as hiking, mountain biking, horse riding, canoeing and climbing. If you like to fish, you'll have a choice between rivers and ponds. This place is ideal for discovering the regional gastronomy and traditional cuisine. How could anyone resist a truffle omelette or pan-fried foie gras, duck breast or goose rillettes? And what about the truffle salads, fish from the rivers and some excellent goat's cheese? If you manage to tear yourself away from such delights, why not go and discover some local sites. The nearby town of Montbron is perched on a bend in the river Tardoire and its castle is now a place for exhibitions and concerts. An old fashioned watermill even continues to grind wheat to this day. Le Château de Jumilhac, remodelled in the Renaissance, is considered the "black pearl" of the Haut-Périgord. Le Château de Richemont was the residence of Pierre de Bourdeille, known as "Brantôme," the famous chronicler. In Limoges, located 80 kilometres away, you'll at the heart of the porcelain industry, known throughout the world. Roam the narrow streets of the old town, leading you to the Saint-Etienne cathedral and the bishop's palace garden, passing through the half-timbered houses of the butchers' quarter. Another city, but in the West this time, Angoulême is not only the capital of the comic book, it is also the city that is home to the Saint-Pierre cathedral, which provides a glimpse of Romanesque art redesigned in a neo-medieval style. In the south, Périgueux is a classified tourist resort, a city of art and history and counts many monuments such as the 12th century Château Barrière and the remains of the Gallo-Roman city with its Tour de Vésone.
