The village of Bonnal is located on the border of the Doubs and Haute-Saône areas, in the heart of a triangle made up of the towns of Vésoul, Belfort and Besançon, near the town of Villersexel. The river Ognon's water has been responsible for making the cogs of the local mill turn. Today, it reflects the slow pace of the village and its beautiful forest. Visit the castle at Villersexel, rebuilt on a Neolithic site where a medieval fort used to stand. Vésoul, which is only a few kilometres away, also boasts a range of historical sites: restored buildings, the Saint-Georges church, old side streets... To the south, Besançon is home to an ancient citadel. The old town definitely has plenty of charm. Children will be amazed by the 12th century cathedral, which has a breathtaking clock made up from over 30 000 individual parts and boasting 70 faces. Further to the east, you will find Belfort and its rich military history which Vauban played a large part in. The town is known for its citadel and its pink sandstone lion which sits on the heights of the Savoureuse river's left bank. The region is home to a huge number of natural landmarks: caves, waterfalls and natural parks, without forgetting to mention the footpaths and cycle tracks. The local rivers provide ample opportunity for walks along the waterside with your family or as a couple. After a walk in the Belle Vaivre forest, have a look around Gray, renowned for its town hall which is famous for its pink marble columns.
