Welcome to the Costa Brava and the medieval town of Pals, on the outskirts of the province of Girona. By strolling through these old streets you let it tell its own history, which dates back to the 9th Century, when its castle was built.
Today, only the keep is still standing; the other buildings did not stand the test of many wars throughout the ages. Those who love old stones will undoubtedly notice the many Visigoth tombs found here. Its also worth stopping at the Mirador Josep Pla, the Plaza Mayor, the tombs in the Calle Mayor and the church of San Pere. On the watchtowers, you can admire the stunning panoramic views over the Empordà countryside and the Medes Islands. Whether youre with family or friends, be sure to go to the Museum of Sub-Marine Archaeology. At Pals beach, fans of bathing and sunbathing can enjoy the crystal waters and Mediterranean sun. During your stay, food-lovers can treat themselves to escalivadas (grilled aubergines, onions and peppers), fish, creamy ice cream and fruit sorbets. Those who love the sea can indulge in some water sports, and shouldnt miss a trip to the natural park of the Medes Islands. Composed of seven islets, these little patches of land are home to exceptionally rich flora and fauna. A detour via Begur (7km/4.3 miles) is also a must. In the heart of Empordà, this village is made up of hills and is one of the most beautiful gems of Costa Brava.
