Historically varied, the Pays de la Loire assembles the departments of the western part of the river and its tributaries: Loire-Atlantique, Maine-et-Loire, Mayenne, Sarthe and Vendée. As it is an agricultural and coastal region, it contains numerous natural and heritage sites to discover, such as part of the Val de Loire, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, or the city of Nantes-Saint Nazaire on the estuary of the Loire, or else the wide sandy beaches of La Baule and the coast of Vendée, one of the most popular French departments among international tourists. With its ideal climate, mild and warm, the Pays de la Loire deserves its title as the « Jardin de la France », where you can have the pleasure of tasting chicken from Loué or duck from Challans, pike or buttered trout from Nantes, raised in the salt marshes of Guérande and to be served with a light red wine, Chinon and Saint-Nicolas de Bourgueil, or a dry white, Muscadet and Gros grown in the Nantes countryside.
